The Flare is a machine designed to burn away unwanted flammable liquids. While every flammable liquid in the game can be flared, each of them can either be converted into useful materials with subsequent research or converted into Electricity via Boiler (Gas) or Diesel Generator.

Flaring petrochemical products (such as Fuel Gas) produces the same amount of Air Pollution as burning the same product in a Boiler (Gas) (ignoring scrubbing or gas injection). However, the latter also produces Steam (High) which can be used for various processes, including oil refining and power production. Thus, it is preferable to avoid flaring unless absolutely necessary to avoid bottlenecks.

Historical notes

Before the patch 0.4.0, the Flare had different appearance, occupied 3x3 tiles and had two inputs.
