Iron is one of the first crafted materials the player will create in the game. It is a required material in the production of Construction Parts and Maintenance I, making it one the highest-demand item on the majority of islands. Iron is produced by casting Molten Iron in the Metal Caster or, later, in the Metal Caster II.
Iron is also directly required as construction material for the Pickup, Small Excavator, Blast Furnace II, and Flywheel.
