The Beacon is a building which enables the acquisition of refugees to increase the island's Population. The time required to attract refugees starts as long as 4 months in the early game and increases in length as the Population grows. After the duration between refugee waves exceeds approximately 24 months, the building ceases to function until such time as the population drops back below this limit due to deaths from the accumulation of Air Pollution and Water Pollution or Disease.
The Beacon should be paused when additional refugees are not desired to prevent a Homelessness situation and/or cause the Population to consume an unsustainable amount of Food.
